Summer Field Day 2024

Skywide Club Field Day Plans

The Skywide club will be operating from two field day sites this year.

Site INDIA will be using the VE3SKI call sign and will be located in Centennial Park just to the northwest of the conservatory (greenhouse) near the parking lot at the end of Elmcrest Road. This will be the same approximate location as the April Fox Hunt.

The club will be providing a tent, chairs, tables, refreshments, snacks, and a light lunchtime/afternoon meal. Phil VE3GFX will be providing several radios and antennas, including a GOTA (Get On The Air) station, and bonus VHF station.

The Centennial Park Field Day site will operate from 9AM to 9PM Saturday June 22nd. Volunteers are needed for both setup and teardown. Field Day operations will begin at 18UTC/2PM local time.

Club members, guests and the general public are welcome to attend. While a reservation is not required, we do ask that those who plan to attend try to RSVP as it helps in the planning process.

2023 Summer Field Day - Another successful outing

The Skywide ARC would like to thank all who attended, the committee members that took the time to help organize the event and Roger VA3HPR for the use of his property near Hanover, Ontario.

Here is a summary from our committee chair and band captain John VE3IPS.

I submitted our scores and happy to say we broke 1000 points with our 4A submission. This is awesome for a first time event for many of the crew with a relaxed and social approach to the weekend.

We all had a chance to try out different things and experiment with our set ups.

Friday night was a great “Leaky Tent” test with only one tent experiencing the floating sleeping bag syndrome. I was assured it will not happen next time.

QRM wasnt that bad with at times 2 on the same band causing more splatter.

No points for various aircraft transmissions heard and several space junk observations.

We did have our own in person SkyNet and thanks to Ian and Tom providing identity management of the objects.

I still await the report from Ron on the “creek driven ground rod” and how it improved his signals.

I promise next year we will deploy the beer can antenna on 40m

It’s not a contest of course its a chance to make friends some of them new

Ok so for Winter Field, grab those ice tents and heaters on sale at SAIL now.
